![]() Kaye frantically regaling the court with the Sylvia Fine lament of a maladjusted jester who is a bundle of quivering nerves. (Miss Natwick is the resident necromancer who possesses a most potent evil eye.) There is Mr. Kaye making ardent passes at Angela Lansbury, the princess, while under a spell of on-and-off hypnotism that Mildred Natwick has cast upon him. But in every-or almost every-mix-up, there is the all-things-to-all-men Mr. There are all sorts of beautiful, babbling stretches of sheer obscurity along the way. We vaguely suspect that proved too tiresome for even Messrs. And there, in the guise of a court jester, they have got him outrageously involved in a palace intrigue, a romance with a princess and a daring plot to enthrone the infant.No use to try to trace the story as it riotously unfolds. But they have not kept him long in this position-only long enough to sing a couple of songs and do a bit of intimate service to the cunningly cooing babe.Then they have whirled him around a few times and headed him straight to the court of the wicked, conniving fellow who has usurped the throne from the tot. They have started him off as a potboy in the green-suited retinue of a bold and gallant forest leader who champions an infant heir to the English throne. ![]() Kaye the whole area of Robin Hoodish and tin-suit romance in which to range. And it would certainly not be for his writers-producers-directors, Norman Panama and Melvin Frank.These gentlemen, being ardent showmen, have opened to Mr. ![]() That sort of self-effacement would not be for Mr. And we are happy to report that it's been leaped at by no less a clown than Danny Kaye, who lands with both feet in "The Court Jester," which came to the Paramount yesterday.Don't let that title lead you to suspect just a dunce in cap and bells, wistfully jingling on the fringes of a court of a medieval king. The opportunity was as obvious as the splash of a custard pie.
